Poker Stars Joins Forces with Wynn Resorts

One of the leading online poker sites in the world, Poker Stars will join forces with Wynn Resorts, the Las Vegas based casino conglomerate, founded and headed by billionaire casino tycoon, Steve Wynn.  The two entities will work together to push for changes in gambling legislation in the United States and will create a new online poker brand, to be known as PokerStarsWynn.com once these changes come about.

The announcement on Friday regarding Wynn’s decision to partner with Poker Stars was seen as particularly dramatic, since the billionaire has been very vocal in the past regarding his opposition to the legalization and regulation of online poker. However, it seems that even a man as powerful as Mr. Wynn can do nothing to stop the tide of support for changes in the US legislation governing online poker, and for him it was simply a question of’ if-you-can’t-beat-them-join-them’.

“After much study, we are convinced that the lack of regulation of internet gambling within the United States much change,” said Wynn in a statement. “We must recognize that this activity is occurring and that law enforcement does not have the tools to stop it. As a company that has safely conducted gambling in the US for more than 40 years, we believe that the same can be done for poker on the internet.”

Poker Stars added in the press release: “PokerStars.com is closely regulated in many European countries and it has been endorsing the adoption of the same approach in the United States for years, with this alliance representing a critical step in that direction.”

It was only a few days ago that another Vegas giant, Caesars Entertainment  announced that it would be partnering with 888 Holdings, the London trading online gambling company, in a bid to expand to the UK market.
